#Maxis10: HTC Desire Z Battery Life

One main problem from the 1st day i get my HTC Desire Z from Maxis is, the battery life.
Im sure this problem is not only for me since I heard a few of complains from other #maxis10 reviewers.

If you havent know, HTC Desire Z come with a 1300mAh battery. Not to say the capacity is very small but im sure i had seen some of HTC phone had a bigger capacity battery than Desire Z. Im not sure why this 1300mAh and in fact you will be surprise when i told you the “brother” of Desire Z, Desire HD had an even smaller battery than HTC Desire Z which is only 1230mAh according to my friend. And one of my friend who get the Desire HD also complain about the battery life is shorter if compared the HTC Legend.
Im wondering isnt the larger screen drain the battery faster… Hmm…

On days when i dont use the phone much, and i spent most of my time on PC or my Laptop, i can get my phone to work for the moment i woke up and unplug it from the charger till the time i wanted to sleep. And keep in mind i do on the auto-sync function which help me pull all email, tweetdeck and wordpress notification, and i run them over my WiFi network.

For those days i have nothing better to do than to use my phone extensively to check mail, browse the web, play games, download stuff, i can only get no more than 6 hours of battery life from it.
When the night i do caroling, i bring my phone out when it’s fully charge, and after about 8 hours of playing with it occasionally, it run out of juice. I guess GPS really use a lot of the battery since that night i check in like mad. Haha

And considering this problem, this is also one of the reason im getting an iPod Touch and not use my phone to listen to podcasts, play games and others.

OK When there is a problem, there is always going to have a solution.
Im still looking for the best solution, but here i can give you a few option if you do face the same problem too.

1) Alternative battery
As im doing the research, i found that Seidio had made a 1700mAh battery pack for the Desire Z (Link) but i got no idea if there is any luck to find a Seidio battery back in Malaysia.
I believe using 1700mAh battery will give you at least one or more hours of battery life.

2) Carry 2 pcs of battery
I used to do this when im still having my N82, because im facing the same problem, i go and get another battery and switch between them. Obviously, you will need to shut down your phone and turn it back on which will need about 1 minute (or 10 seconds with the HTC fast boot). If you are OK with that, this is a pretty good alternative.

3) Battery Pack
I had seen quite a lot of battery pack out there which most of them charge over USB. Good thing is HTC Desire Z charge over a standard micro usb. So i think this is quite nice too.

4) Plug in to your computer most of the time
If you are working on a computer or near a computer, just plug it in and let it charge. And you will have enough battery life when you need it.

Some tips to maximise the battery life from HTC’s website : LINK
How To Geek also gave you some advice: LINK
And if you rooted your phone, try to downclock the CPU speed if you dont need it.

Any other tips you have to share of maximizing the battery life or do you know where to get a larger capacity battery? Share with me in the comment.

heres something which you might be interested in,a 3600mah,extended battery for your desire z,im contemplating getting the desire z if i get it,ill also be getting this bigger battery.as its thicker than the original htc battery it also comes with a back cover to accomodate this.if you can live with the extra thickness to your phone it seems the smart move,i dont mind the excess bulk one bit.

Im using the HTC HD7. I get over 12 hours on my daily tweeting, FB, texting, a few calls etc. However, I need to switch off all my auto sync. If everything was switch on.. I think it would last less than 6 hours… which sucks.

Phones batteries should be made to last over 16 hours on all auto sync. It makes a good point because you spend 16 hours away from home…

Agree. Will maybe get a bulky extended battery if I get the phone.
